Throughout the year, STEP offers special seasonal programs to support St. Louis Park residents during times that can bring added financial and emotional stress. From backpacks full of school supplies to warm winter coats and holiday meals, these programs are designed to help neighbors celebrate, stay safe, and feel supported-no matter the season.
Back to School Program
Starting the school year with the right supplies helps every child feel confident and ready to learn. STEP’s Back to School Program provides St. Louis Park students with grade-appropriate school supplies and backpacks at no cost to families. By easing the financial burden of back-to-school shopping, we ensure that every student can begin the year prepared alongside their classmates.
Registration for STEP’s 2025 Back to School Program is now closed.
Winter coats & Winter wear items
Starting in October, STEP provides winter coats and other winter-wear items to residents in need living in St. Louis Park. Clients are able to choose winter coats and other winter-wear items throughout the winter months.
Residents must register with a STEP social worker prior to accessing the service.
STEP requests annual address verification in the form of a medical bill, utility bill, or mail from city, county, state or federal government. Mail must be postmarked within past 30 days.
holiday food
During November and December, STEP provides special holiday food distributions to help those in need celebrate the Thanksgiving and winter holidays with a nourishing meal. Eligible households receive traditional holiday groceries so they can gather with loved ones without added financial stress.
holiday toys
The holiday season should be joyful for every child. Every December, STEP’s Holiday Toy Program helps make that possible by providing new toys and gifts to children in St. Louis Park whose families are facing financial hardship.
Registration information for STEP’s 2025 Toy Program will be released in November.
