Back to School Program
In late August, STEP will be distributing school supplies to St. Louis Park children entering grades K-12. Our goal is for every St. Louis Park child to have a fresh start to the school year by providing a new backpack and grade appropriate school supplies. In 2010, we distributed supplies to563 St. Louis Park students attending over 40 different schools! This year we anticipate serving 600 children, so we need your help.
BACK TO SCHOOL REGISTRATION
To receive assistance with school supplies, St. Louis Park households must register children living in St. Louis Park & entering grades K-12 this fall.
REGISTRATION: Monday, July 11 to Friday, August 12
REGISTER during food appointments or during the following walk-in times:
- Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 1pm to 2pm
- Tuesdays: 6pm to 7pm
- Please note–there are no walk-in times on Fridays.
To register, households must bring a picture ID, current utility bill, as well as identification for each child to show date of birth. For more information about registration, please call STEP at 952-925-4899.
BACK TO SCHOOL DONATIONS NEEDED!
Donate school supplies or a monetary contribution to make this year’s program another success! A contribution of $40 will sponsor one student with grade appropriate school supplies, including a backpack. (Please write “Back to School” on all checks.) Donations can be dropped off at STEP during our office hours: MWTh: 8am to 4pm; Tues: Noon to 8pm; Fri: 8am to Noon.
Backpacks are distributed during registration so please donate during July & early August.
All other school supplies donations are needed by August 12.
SUPPLIES NEEDED INCLUDE:
- 3-ring zippered binders
- Composition notebooks
- Glue sticks
- 12 count Crayola colored pencils
- 8 count Crayola WASHABLE markers
- Zippered pencil pouches
- Adult size scissors
- Large backpacks for Jr. and Sr. High student
BACK TO SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Volunteers are needed to sort school supply donations, pack bags and distribute school supplies. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old for these volunteer shifts. To sign up for a shift, contact Kate Burggraff, STEP Volunteer Coordinator, at 952-925-4899 x14 or kate@STEPslp.org.
