STEP Distributes 530 Holiday Food Baskets

Throughout November, STEP, St. Louis Park’s local food shelf, was a little busier than normal. Each day, STEP volunteers and staff were not only distributing the usual amount of food—over 3,000 pounds—and clothing—over 30 bags—they were also distributing Thanksgiving Food Baskets to St. Louis Park families. These Baskets included canned and boxed items, fresh produce (potatoes, onions, apples and oranges) as well as a gift certificate to purchase their Thanksgiving meat option—everything to make a traditional Thanksgiving meal for their family. STEP also provided 15 families with gift certificates to purchase Kosher Thanksgiving food items. While STEP had only allocated funds to serve 500 households, the organization was able to serve over that number and meet the need in the community thanks to a donation of turkeys from Nordic Ware delivered a day before Thanksgiving. In total, STEP volunteers and staff provided 530 St. Louis Park families (1,667 individuals) with Thanksgiving food to help them through the Holiday. The amount of Thanksgiving food distributed totaled 12,010 pounds!
STEP’s Thanksgiving Program could not have happened this year without the many supportive donors and volunteers that give their time and resources to help provide for their neighbors here in St. Louis Park. Thank you for your support. December at STEP will continue to be busy as staff and volunteers prepare to distribute new toys to over 1,000 St. Louis Park children, ages 0 to 18, through the STEP Toy Shop.
